About
Eleanor Tomczyk is a memoirist, a humorist blogger, an author whose work features the musings of an engagingly funny African-American baby-boomer, and ex-Evangelical Conservative Christian. (She didn’t leave the Church—the Church left her, but to hear her tell it, she “still loves me some Jesus!”) Not many authors can begin a book with words to the effect of “I was born in a toilet,” literally mean it, and live to tell about it with such grace and humor.
At the age of 60, the wife, mother, singer, actress, motivational speaker, and award-winning voice-over artist set out to establish a new career in retirement as a storyteller, using her life as fodder. Currently in her mid-70s, the mother, grandmother, and wife of 45+ years has published four books: Monsters’ Throwdown (2013), Fleeing Oz (2015), and The Fetus Chronicles: Podcasts from My Miseducated Self (2017), and her most recent publication (2024)—House of Oz Undone (a cautionary tale). She also posts a humorous weekly blog: How the Hell Did I End Up Here?
Tomczyk started writing in her 60s as she drew nearer to retirement because after surviving a half dozen foster homes, an institutional clearing house for unwanted children, racism, and a cult-like community as a young adult, Eleanor realized the narratives about her life had been mainly formed by others, and they were basically inaccurate and unimaginative. Her real life was far more glorious, more profane, more intelligent, more beautiful, more hilarious, more creative, and far more adventurous than the critics, the abusers, and the naysayers had ever imagined or wished to give her credit for.
Our author drowned out all their negative voices, got a laptop and started writing the truth about her adventures on Earth as a child of God, a survivor, and a truthteller. As Eleanor Tomczyk stood up to the petulant bullies in her own life, she became much more vocal about the suffering of others in her community and her nation—fighting the good fight against local and national bullies via her writing, acts of service, and activism.
Now in her mid-70’s, Eleanor Tomczyk is still going strong as a world traveler, a writer and an advocate of truth, and has written her first novel which is a political fantasy for our troubled times—a bold reimagining of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which is entitled: House of Oz Undone (a cautionary tale).
Amazon Review
“Wow! If anyone is not aware of the critical time in which we live, this book will drive it home. Tomczyk has a unique talent for bringing our attention to the most serious issues we face, but in an enjoyable and page-turning read. Please, please share this with your friends and family. At a time when some may be disheartened about the future of America, as House of Oz Undone unfolds, it not only describes the seriousness and urgency of the choices we as citizens now face, but it also offers HOPE. If we fight the good fight together, we can save our society from a dismal descent. ‘A Cautionary Tale’ indeed!! Not only is this a must-read, it is a must-read NOW!” —Amazon Review—July 2024
